Ingredients
- Materials
- 8-inch glass block, available at most home stores
- Contact paper
- Holiday stencil
- Pencil
- Hobby knife or razor blade for cutting
- Small paintbrush
- Glass etching cream (e.g., Armour Etch®) Festive holiday ribbon, approximately 5 feet
- Glue
- Votive candle
Instructions
- Directions
- Thoroughly clean and dry glass block
- Apply contact paper to one side of glass block and press out all the bubbles
- Trace holiday stencil design onto contact paper with pencil
- Use hobby knife or razor blade to cut the contact paper away from the areas you want to etch
- With paintbrush, apply glass etching solution to the cut-out design areas
- Allow solution to remain on glass for the amount of time recommended by the etching solution manufacturer, usually 5 – 10 minutes
- Run cool water over the etching cream to rinse it off
- Peel off the contact paper and rinse the glass under cool water again
- Affix ribbon with glue around outer edge of the glass block
- Make a bow from the remaining ribbon and attach with glue to the top of the glass block
- Set a votive candle behind the glass block to illuminate design
- Cautions
- Wear latex gloves when working with glass etching cream. It is an acid.
- Apply the cream in a well-ventilated area.
